“
You look at her and all you see are the jagged edges but she is something quite different. She is beautiful and strange, and very rare.

so there i was, contentedly munching on lays potato crisps that i hand-carried all the way from general santos… in a cozy theatre with a lazy boy that rocked (literally!) admiring how the written world i had only envisioned in my speed-reading of the book (in time for the movie) was brought to life on the big screen.
when just after an hour into the movie, i get a double dose of plot changes–and not for the better, in my opinion. the movie quickly degenerated into a typical hollywood special effects flick with a predictable happy, sappy ending. without the relationship and redemption arcs, the movie lacked the book’s depth. makes me wonder if they shot an alternative ending for this. or if there’s a director’s cut floating out there in cyberspace.
obviously, “i liked the book better.”
