in #zamboanga the sound of c-130s bringing in men and materiel, helicopters offering recon and air support, sporadic gunfire and explosions can be heard day and night… wayward mortar rounds and stray bullets have wounded and taken innocent lives… tens of thousands have been displaced and rumors and conspiracy theories abound… it’s been 16 days. i heard there are now more or less 20,000 security forces in the city trying to flush out the remaining 30-40 rebels. the 8,000 during the first week was already overkill. *shrugs* in this #zambocrisis perhaps the military option was always the preferred option, maybe not by the city, but by the powers that be. the rebels have been able to deliver a strong message; is government trying to send a stronger one by prolonging this armed conflict? is it possible that we’re fighting the wrong war? who’s truly winning in the battle for hearts and minds? #peace #prayforzamboanga #prayforpeace (at the aerie)
